Trend: Top seeds failing in all sports

Our own Captain Comeback, Scott Kacsmar, writing for Sports Illustrated notes that the top seeds in all sports have been less likely to win a championship since 2000 including a close look at the NFL:

What’s Different?: Top seeds are going one-and-done at a shocking rate since 2000. The problem has only gotten worse with five of the last seven top seeds losing after their bye week to a team that had to win on Wild Card weekend.

First, kudos to Scott whose work is long overdue for recognition. Second, the guy needs to slow down because at this rate he’s going to uncover every great mystery in sports before I have a chance to catch up on all the episodes of Vepp I’ve already missed. He’s on fire…

About Todd Smith

Todd Smith is a part-time sportswriter who spends too much time arguing on Twitter. What he really loves is eating poorly and watching football. He got his first Colts t-shirt in 1984 shortly after the Mayflower trucks arrived and has never given up on his hometown team. He also still holds to the belief that Kordell Stewart stepped out of the end zone and thus cheated the Colts.
