While not entirely groundbreaking, Mike Wells' 'final' training camp observations do provide updates on guys like Griff Whalen, Anthony Castonzo, and TY Hilton. Griff remains day-to-day, and his role as a clear #5 receiver has dropped to 'possible'; meanwhile, Anthony Castonzo has been kinda shakey on Indy's O-Line, and TY has a good chance of upending DHB on the Colts' depth chart.
Receiver T.Y. Hilton is listed as the third receiver behind Reggie Wayne and Heyward-Bey, but don’t be surprised if he replaces DHB as the second receiver at some point. Hilton has outplayed DHB so far because of DHB’s inconsistency in catching the football. Whether he moves up to the No. 2 receiver or stays at No. 3, expect Hilton to have a great second season because of his speed – and confidence.
The only really disconcerting thing about the preseason (so far) has been injuries to Dwayne Allen and LaRon Landry. Indy's tight ends and safeties were, arguably, the key to anchoring the offense and defense this year; without that second guy, Bethea and Fleener won't perform nearly as effectively. If Indy can't get those guys back in time for the regular season, I'd vote for a complete overhaul of the health&training system.
I mean, name one guy who came off a multiple-game injury absence last year, only to perform well. I can't think of one.
