Colts losing their heroes

Not only is Peyton Manning going to be wearing a new uniform but many familiar, in some cases legendary, players will no longer be Colts. Mike Chappell notes that Reggie Wayne hasn’t even talked with the team while other such as Jeff Saturday, Pierre Garçon, Ryan Diem, Anthony Gonzalez, Gary Brackett, Jacob Tamme, Melvin Bullitt, Dallas Clark, Joe Addai and Dwight Freeney may either depart or be asked to restructure deals to stay:

“Nothing. I have not heard a word,” Wayne said, the exasperation in his voice evident. “Not a phone call, not a text message, not a note from a pigeon. Nothing. That tells me it’s been real, but things happen and teams move on.”

Other pending free agents include receivers Pierre Garcon and Anthony Gonzalez.

“Sounds like everybody says Luck’s going to be the quarterback. They’re going to have a new leader at the helm and that’s cool,” Wayne said. “Right now I’m not sure who he’s going to throw the ball to, but I’m sure (coach) Chuck Pagano and (general manager Ryan) Grigson will figure that out. Like I said, it’s going to be different.”

About Todd Smith

Todd Smith is a part-time sportswriter who spends too much time arguing on Twitter. What he really loves is eating poorly and watching football. He got his first Colts t-shirt in 1984 shortly after the Mayflower trucks arrived and has never given up on his hometown team. He also still holds to the belief that Kordell Stewart stepped out of the end zone and thus cheated the Colts.
