It's official; the Colts, after adding and re-adding a plethora of defensive backs, have released Tom Zbikowski.
The Notre Dame alum and professional boxer followed coach Chuck Pagano and teammates Brandon McKinney and Cory Redding from Baltimore to Indy last season. He started 11 games, finishing with 47 tackles, one sack and one interception while returning six kickoffs for 123 yards.
It seems like Indy's really trying to revamp their defense this year, almost like their offense in 2012. With this in mind, letting Freeney leave makes more sense; start from the top with a new guy, work your way down from there. Andrew Luck's offense covered for the defense on multiple occasions last year, but that was the only thing Indy focused on in the draft: offense, position guys. This year, of seven free agent signings, five are defensive players.
I can't say whether it's Grigson's intention, but I will tell you to keep that in mind come the draft.
