Alabama A&M to retire Mathis’ number

Robert Mathis deserves and is receiving recognition for his outstanding career thus far:

Alabama A&M will retire the college jersey of Indianapolis Colts defensive end Robert Mathis in a ceremony on March 3.

Mathis’ No. 55 will be retired at halftime of Alabama A&M’s annual spring game.

Mathis started all four years for the Bulldogs and set an NCAA Division I-AA (now FCS) record for 20 sacks in a single season before joining the Indianapolis Colts.

About Todd Smith

Todd Smith is a part-time sportswriter who spends too much time arguing on Twitter. What he really loves is eating poorly and watching football. He got his first Colts t-shirt in 1984 shortly after the Mayflower trucks arrived and has never given up on his hometown team. He also still holds to the belief that Kordell Stewart stepped out of the end zone and thus cheated the Colts.
