UPDATE: Injury expert Will Carroll who writes for such places at Sports Illustrated provides an important update on Manning’s status.
Unless a very good source is flat out lying to me, Manning has not had a procedure since May. Not scheduled now. Possible, waiting on tests.
Coltzilla will continue following the story until the truth is clear. We hope Carroll’s source is right and Manning continues his recovery.
Jake Query, 1260 WNDE radio host, is reporting that his sources tell him that Peyton Manning has undergone a third neck surgery — either Sunday or Monday — and will miss the 2011 season. Coltzilla will follow-up on this report and provide any updates as they become available.
What I said: A source I consider reliable told me he is out for the season. I do believe that the actual diagnosis is still being determined
I was also told the 3rd procedure has taken place, either Sun or Monday.
To emphasize: not backing off what I said, but Manning obviously didnt tell me info. Two people I trust did. Just tellin u what I was told.
If this turns out to be true it puts Peyton Manning’s quote from earlier today in an entirely different light.
To say I am disappointed in not being able to play is an understatement. The best part about football is being out there on the field playing with my teammates. It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans. I simply am not healthy enough to play, and I am doing everything I can to get my health back. The team will do fine without me, and I know for sure that I will miss them much more than they will miss me.
Tip to pierrezombie for the heads up.
Schefter says, “One Colts official texted me this: ‘We are aware of the rumors, but can’t confirm rumors. That is all they are.’”
