Rumor: Colts May Sign Former Rams Wide Receiver Donnie Avery

It has been reported that Texans head coach Gary Kubiak told Barry Warner and Shuan Bijani of Sports Radio 610 — on their show “The Odd Couple” — that Donnie Avery will sign with the Indianapolis Colts. If true, Avery will come to Indianapolis with nearly $700k in guaranteed money owed to him already from the Rams.

After he suffered a season-ending knee injury in August of 2010 he fell out of favor in St. Louis and recently cleared waivers. He produced 100 catches for 1,263 yards and 8 touchdowns in his first two seasons. Avery also had a mind-blowing 4.27 40-yard dash at his Pro Day.

He would add a player with experience, speed, and big-play ability with room to continue developing if he joins the Colts. It is likely that if the signing does occur, he would have to replace the injured Anthony Gonzalez or Blair White. Coltzilla will continue following the story and provide verification when it is available.

*It is worth noting that NFL reporter Adam Caplan tweeted today that even though Kubiak stated that Avery will sign with the Colts, he has not yet officially done so.
