Pat McAfee Shows Why the Search for Vinatieri’s Future Replacement may be Unnecessary

Adam Vinatieri just signed a 3-year deal with the Colts, giving the Colts the security of knowing that one of the most prolific place kickers in NFL history will remain in Colts blue and white for a while longer. Given Vinny’s age, though, it is not unacceptable to think the Colts would be looking for the place kicker of the future.

While most eyes have been turned to the 2012 or 2013 rookie class, it seems that we may have our answer staring us right in the face. Earlier this week, Pat McAfee was practicing his field goal kicks and seemingly decided to see what it was like to boot one from his own half of the field. As it turns out, for Patty Mac, a 75 yard kick is no problem. In the video below, McAfee takes a couple of kicks from his side of the field and sails them through the uprights from 65 yards, 70 yards, and 75 yards. Pat confirmed these kicks are legitimate, and while they may just be flukes, there is no denying that McAfee has one of the strongest legs in the NFL.

Even if we never see Pat McAfee really step back into his original role as a place kicker, it is good to know that the Colts have someone on the roster who can step up in a worst case scenario and kick a very long field goal with confidence that he will have the leg to get it down field.
