After a lot of speculation by Colts fans and bloggers that the team might end up re-signing cornerback Kelvin Hayden to the roster for a smaller price tag, Jason LaCanfora reports that he has agreed to terms with the Atlanta Falcons. With uncertainty still surrounding Jacob Lacey’s ability to step up at a full-time starter, and questions swirling around why Justin Tryon has not received a chance to take over for Lacey, this news takes away a potential safety blanket. If the Colts secondary is going to come together, it will have to do so with the guys already on the roster, or with a player who probably does not have any experience in the Colts system.
In other news, as suspected, starters Antoine Bethea, Austin Collie, and Peyton Manning have all been ruled out against the Bengals. Anthony Gonzalez will also be unable to compete. This confirms that if the team is going to keep Gonzalez around, it will have to do so based upon the work he’s been able to do in training camp and careful consideration about the status of his current injury.
