Former Colts DT Daniel Muir Signs with Rams

Following up on the rumor from earlier this weekend that Daniel Muir had been cut by the Colts, Jason La Canfora reported via Twitter that Daniel Muir has signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Rams. Muir struggled when he was asked to fill in for Antonio Johnson at nose tackle for much of the 2010 season and with third-year under tackle Fili Moala taking over the starting job across from Johnson, Muir would only need to be retained if the front office felt there was not sufficient depth behind Moala already on the roster.

Players like rookie Drake Nevis, Eric Foster, and Ricardo Mathews are all built to thrive in the under tackle role in different ways so it makes sense that the team would let Muir move on with his career elsewhere. It is worth noting, however, that Muir was the biggest defensive tackle on the team before his departure and that unless Indianapolis plans to use Nevis as a nose tackle, there are no options behind Antonio Johnson in the role — DeMario Pressley was a gap penetrating tackle in college so if he is meant to fill the spot, he will require time to adjust.
