The Colts continue the 2011 effort to rebuild an offensive line that has under-achieved since Tarik Glenn retired following the 2006 season. Guard Seth Olsen was signed off of waivers from Minnesota. To make room, Indianapolis released former 2008 seventh-round selection Jamey Richard.
No offense to the Colts front office with this move, as any continued effort to improve the offensive line should be considered a positive development, but letting Richard go so soon after releasing superior players and prospects like Jacques McClendon and Kyle DeVan makes the decision even more odd. Still, at 6-feet 5-inches tall and 315 pounds, Olsen increases available size on the offensive line.
He also adds to the Big 10 presence in Indianapolis as a former Iowa Hawkeye. Olsen has some experience at tackle and is known more as a run-blocker.
