T.J. Houshmanzadeh Update

Man, this is a weird picture. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

A few days ago, we posted a report that T.J. Houshmanzadeh was close to signing with the Colts. Well, nothing emerged over the weekend, except that according to Rich Smith, Houshmanzadeh had received a better offer from the Vikings, and was set to visit the Patriots.  It sounded like the wide receiver was choosing between the three teams (Colts, Vikings, Patriots).  Rumor has it that T.J. didn’t even show up on Monday for his workout with the Patriots, and now Rich Smith is reporting that Housh has indeed decided to pass on the Patriots and Vikings, but left open the possibility to sign with the Colts.

A report today from Pro Football Talk released updated salary cap space, and listed the Colts with $7.1 million to spend (or keep), so the Colts certainly have the resources to sign Houshmanzadeh.   I still believe the Colts have more pressing needs at Safety (depth) and Defensive Tackle (1-tech Nose Tackle), but I’d be all for this acquisition.  Yes, Housh is 34, but he’s an extremely smart, savvy, possession WR that I believe would work well with Peyton Manning - the two have played together in multiple Pro Bowls over the years.  While the WR wouldn’t be much more than added depth, last year proved that you can never have too many weapons.  When Dallas Clark, Austin Collie, and Anthony Gonzalez – all inside, possession WR’s – went down to injury, our offense struggled. No word yet if the Colts will indeed sign the veteran wide receiver, but I’ll update the situation when I hear something official.
