Jim Irsay Announces Roster Moves: Brackett, Bullitt to IR UPDATE: Tryon Cut

Jim Irsay officially announced the signings of A.J. Edds and Dan Orlovsky today via his twitter account, along with a surprise:

ROSTER MOVES: G.Brackett n M.Bullitt have been placed on injured reserve…signed LB A.J. Edds n QB D. Orlovsky

The Bullitt and Edds stories were broken earlier today, but moving Brackett to IR came out of the blue. According to Brittany Diehl of Fox 59, Brackett has already gone under the knife for his shoulder injury. The move to IR Brackett is certainly puzzling.

From what has been coming out of the Colts, Brackett's injury wasn't bad enough to keep him out all season. It's especially puzzling considering that the Colts currently have four quarterbacks on the active roster: Curtis Painter, Kerry Collins, Dan Orlovsky, and Peyton Manning. Either the Colts really believe that Manning has a shot at coming back this season, or Brackett's injury was far worse than anybody outside of the Colts thought.

It's almost better this way for the linebacker situation, as Pat Angerer won't be forced back into an outside linebacker spot. Unfortunately, it's likely that Brackett won't be playing another down for the Colts. I seriously doubt the Colts keep him around after this year, not with the way Angerer has progressed.

Also interesting news: the Chargers IR'd Bob Sanders today. Who'd have seen that coming? Oh wait… everybody. On a serious note, it really is too bad about Sanders. He was a great player when healthy, but with his style of play, his body just couldn't take it.

UPDATE: Based on Justin Tryon's tweets, he's been cut. It's a very surprising move, but Tryon hasn't had much playing time all season. It's yet to be explained why Jacob Lacey has been playing over Tryon.

UPDATE: The Colts confirm the Tryon cut, signed CB Jermale Hines.
