Caldwell Confirms: Painter Starting vs. Chiefs

After a week of hints, Colts head coach Jim Caldwell confirmed today that third-year quarterback Curtis Painter will be starting against the Chiefs on Sunday. From Tom James of the Trib Star and CBS Rapid Reports:

Coach Jim Caldwell confirmed Friday that Curtis Painter will start at quarterback Sunday against Kansas City. Painter made his first NFL regular season start in last Monday night's loss to Tampa Bay. QB Kerry Collins (concussion) has seen light practice the last two days but has not been cleared to play.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone paying attention this week. Painter was more impressive than Kerry Collins in his only start (rather, less terrible), and right now is the best option to lead the offense going forward. Hopefully, as Kyle Mason said in his game preview, the offensive line can block Tamba Hali long enough for Painter to be effective against the Chiefs.
