ICYMI: Colts release players, Richardson has surgery, Fleener supports Jonathan Martin and Colts on Twitter

Colts release RB Tashard Choice and DE Jake McDonough

Jake McDonough signed with the New York Jets after he was undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft. McDonough never saw game action, and was mainly a member of the team’s practice squad.

Tashard Choice signed with the Colts in December after he was released by the Buffalo Bills. Choice saw little action with the team, and finished the 2013 season with 170 yards on 46 carries.

Trent Richardson undergoes shoulder surgery

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Twitter that Trent Richardson underwent a scope on his shoulder. The surgery is said to be extremely minor, and it is not supposed to hurt his offseason or cause any issues at all. Richardson was never on the injury report for a shoulder injury, so it’s unknown if this is something he had for a portion of the season or if it came out of nowhere. Regardless, fans should hope he has a speedy recovery so he can prepare for a better 2014 season.

Coby Fleener supports Jonathan Martin

There are a handful of Colts that know Jonathan Martin from his Stanford days. Coby Fleener is one of those players, and Mike Wells of ESPN was able to speak with him about his former teammate.

Quotes from Fleener from the article:

“He’s physical at the line of scrimmage, smart guy, understands the offense well. I think he would be a great teammate for anybody to have.”

“I didn’t really look at it as who was going to be wrong and who was going to be right, I just wanted the best for Jonathan regardless of who was wrong or right. I didn’t talk to him about the specifics or anything like that because I felt like it wasn’t my place. If he wanted to talk about it that was fine. I really just wanted to make sure he was doing alright.”

“I don’t really campaign for anybody. I think that’s up to our GM and coaching staff. They’ve done an awesome job putting together the team. If Coach or Mr. Grigson asked me, I would have nothing but support for Jonathan.”
