This afternoon, the Colts placed Lawrence Sidbury in the Injured Reserve, ending his season. While this is sad news for Sidbury, who showed he is an impressive athlete, it does open the door for one man wrecking crew Caesar Rayford to make the roster without the team having to keep a fifth outside linebacker (they kept 4 OLB’s and 5 ILB’s last season).
Indianapolis also cut eleven players, taking their active roster down to 78. They still have until 4:00 PM EDT on Tuesday to make the final three difficult calls. Here is the list from the team’s press release:
The Indianapolis Colts today waived the following players: CB-Johnny Adams, CB-Allen Chapman, G-Danous Estenor, DT-Kellen Heard, P/K-Brandon McManus, RB-Davin Meggett, LB-C.O. Prime, C-Rick Schmeig and S-Ashante Williams. WR-Maurice Williams was waived with an injury settlement and CB-Teddy Williams was waived-injured. The team also placed OLB-Lawrence Sidbury on Injured Reserve.
Any kicker trying out with the Colts likely knows he will be cut eventually and is making his case to other teams while learning from one of the greatest kickers of all time (not to mention a darn good punter). For the other ten players, their NFL dreams have taken a hit, as several more will join them in search of another team in the coming days.
We’ll keep you updated on any future developments, as the Colts roster may fluctuate over the next week or so.
