The Colts worked their roster down to the league mandated 75 players this morning (they had until 4:00 EDT today). Safety John Boyett was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, while receiver Nathan Palmer was waved-injured. Linebacker Josh McNary was given an exempt status.
From the team’s press release:
If Palmer clears waivers, he will revert to the Colts Injured Reserve list. McNary’s exemption is under the Reserve/Military rules where the player reported after June 1, 2013 and has not played in any preseason games.
With the moves today, the Colts have reached the league-mandated 75-man active roster.
Palmer had an up and down training camp and preseason before injuring his knee, while Boyett has yet to see the field. The fact that the rookie safety is on the Reserve/Non-Football injury list means the Colts remain hopeful that he’ll be able to play at some point this season. Similar to the regular season Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, Reserve/Non-Football Injury players are eligible to play and practice after week 6.
More cuts and roster moves are coming, likely after the fourth preseason game, as the deadline for the final cut to 53 players, August 31, is fast approaching. We’ll keep you updated as the bottom of the roster fluctuates in the coming days.
