He can’t play but maybe he can coach

The NY Times points out an interesting tidbit: Manning can continue to game plan although his on-field presence is irreplaceable.

Manning is so central to the offense that he leads the meetings with coaches, doling out assignments to find plays to support or dismiss the impressions of the opponent he has gleaned from his own film study. Even his coaches have said that most of the game plan is of Manning’s making. That command of the offense cannot be replicated, the fear and hesitation that Manning puts in defenses at the line of scrimmage not replaced, no matter how comfortable Collins eventually becomes.
