Still Horribly Early 2012 Mocks Review

Only two months removed from the 2011 draft, there are already a large pool of 2012 mocks to examine. Some popular themes are emerging in the collective minds of draftniks across the internet.

Most Popular (since 5/18)

1. Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M x3
1. Marcus Forston, DT, Miami x3
3. Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma x2
3. Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma x2
3. Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama x2

Most Popular (since 2011 draft)

1. Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M x6
1. Marcus Forston, DT, Miami x6
3. Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma x4
4. Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rugters x3

Fuller is a wide receiver prospect who stands out primarily due to his size, listed 6’4″ 215lbs, and an excellent performance against star LSU corner Patrick Peterson, 7 for 83 in the Cotton Bowl, but he has solid production, hands, athleticism and route running skills as well. (Scouting Report)

Marcus Forston has the size and strength of a top 4-3 DT, but needs to be more disruptive this fall to warrant a 1st round selection (Report)

Broyles is small and doesn’t have elite athleticism, but is phenominally productive, very sure handed and a great route runner. (Report)

Landry Jones is big (6’4″ 219lbs), productive (64 TDs and nearly 8,000 yards passing his first two years) and accurate (65.6% comp last year, 62.5% career) from a system that just produced a franchise QB in Sam Bradford. If the Colts are willing to spend a high pick on a successor to Manning who will sit for a few years, Jones would be a serious candidate. (Report)

Trent Richardson was often cited as a surprior RB to teammate and 2011 1st rounder Mark Ingram and was on the field in passing game much more often than Ingram. (Report)

Sanu is an excellent athlete with good size who had some production last year despite playing in an offense that ran the ball almost 60% of the time. His fit with the Colts profile isn’t great at the moment, but he’s a legitimate prospect for a 1st round selection at WR.

Other 1st round selections in the last month were CBs Coryell Judie (Texas A&M) and Cliff Harris (Oregon), Oklahoma LB Travis Lewis, Iowa State O-lineman Kelechi Osemele, Notre Dame WR, Michael Floyd Arizona QB, Nick Foles, and Arkansas RB, Knile Davis.

Also mocked in Indy as a 1st rounder in the past two months are  Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State, Courtney Upshaw, LB, Alabama, Tydreke Powell, DT, North Carolina, Ray Ray Armstrong, S, Miami (FL), Mike Brewster, C, Ohio State, Manti Te’o, MLB, Notre Dame, Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State, Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas, Bruce Irvin, DE, West Virginia, Robert Lester, S, Alabama, Andre Branch, DE, Clemson, and Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska.
