Why does it matter so much that Butler is playing in the Final Four next Saturday night at the Luke?
Because I’d almsot lost faith in Indiana as a basketball state.
Because the NCAA cartel that screws the little guy in the seedings took it in the chin.
Because Kansas shouldn’t get to claim the edge in round ball.
Because their roster is loaded with Hoosiers.
Because they play the Butler way…the way basketball was meant to be played.
Because I grew up sledding on Butler Hill.
Because I grew up on 55th street, just blocks from Hinkle.
Because I ate the stale popcorn and Pepsis with my sister.
Because my dad taught me how to heckle officials there.
Because I learned to love basketball at my dad’s side there.
Because there is no better spot on earth to watch a basketball game.
Because I never thought I’d live to see the day.
Because I believe in miracles.
Because if you are from Indianapolis, for once it won’t matter if you are a Hoosier or a Boiler.
Next Saturday night, Butler is your hometown team.
That’s why it matters.
